WAYLON'S AMAZING STORY! continued...

Roughly a week later, returning from a long walk with a shelter volunteer, Galway’s fear
erupted. He panicked as they neared the shelter
. He resisted and struggled, then fought against his walker. Her scrapes, scratches and puncture wounds looked bad.

During  he official review (without his walker included), shelter management judged the bites severe enough and Galway’s behavior unpredictable enough to order euthanasia. Although his walker insisted her wounds were minor, Galway was be killed May 21st.

The outcome was amazing! Galway’s walker (and now advocate) launched a vigorous
campaign to save his life via email, social media and local networks. The community, appalled their beloved “no-kill” shelter had taken such a drastic step, responded with fervor. Once our founder Susan Wallace learned Galway had only days to live, she contacted one of her favorite fosters experienced in difficult cases. Partnering with Pam Gorman of Rescue for Pet Sake in Grass Valley, legal papers was filed with the shelter, waivers signed, fees paid. Galway was on his way to a new life – with a day to spare.

He really did beat the odds!

Galway (now renamed Waylon) and ins foster mom Sarah had a tough time at first. There were times Waylon broke windows or destroyed furniture, simply because of separation anxiety and fear when Sarah was away. Sarah has never seen any aggressive  or biting behavior. Waylon’s inherent sweet, calm, gentle nature gave her confidence that he could become a reliable, truly great companion.

Today, just five months after he beats the odds he’d die, Waylon is a very happy, secure, engaging teenage dog. Sarah adores him and he, her. She takes him with her everywhere – even to the local store where he’s greeted with enthusiasm and gets to pick out his own treat. Waylon is wonderful with other animals. He has no prey drive at all — he doesn't even chase the wild turkeys. He accompanies Sarah all around her ranch to tend to the farm animals she has rescued. In fact, one day Waylon’s Belgian Malinois herding instincts proved invaluable as he helped Sarah load a skittish Clydesdale mare into her animal transport-RV van.

Our story does have an ending like a Disney movie, because it seems that Waylon's
marvelous foster home with Sarah will likely be his forever home.

Scooter's Pals has earned a reputation that's unique in animal welfare work. Like other dog rescues,  we take in many kinds of dogs — various sizes, breeds, ages, and needs. We also take in some of the most challenging rescue cases — abandoned animals that are in need of advanced medical care and sometimes behavioral rehabilitation. Simply put, we step up and also take the cases that many rescues leave behind in the shelters to die.

Please know that it is your ongoing support, your donations, that allow us to do this
work.
Please open your heart. Please dig deep in your pockets. Please donate as much as you can to help us continue our work saving animals in desperate need.

Blessings for all that you can do!
